INFORMATION FOR VETERAN'S FAMILIES

Every honorably discharged veteran, regardless of time in service, can receive funeral honors free of charge. This includes at least two uniformed service members to play taps and present the flag. Retired veterans can receive full honors, including a rifle team. The non-retirees can also have a rifle team provided by the American Legion or VFW upon request.
In order to make sure the event goes as planned, please coordinate all activities through your funeral director. He has all the necessary telephone numbers to access participating organizations.
In the event the service is delayed or coordination with the funeral director is not possible, you can contact the American Legion Post 237 directly at 256-883-9911. We can provide a rifle team or full honors when the uniformed services are unavailable. All services provided by the American Legion are free of charge to veteran’s families.
In addition to funeral services, a gravestone and stipend can be provided by the VA upon request, see the VA website for information.
